If you are in Rockland County on April 7, head out to Nanuet High School at 4:30 p.m. to see the 3rd Annual Tara Csernecky-McCoy Memorial Softball game against North Rockland.

I’ve talked about this game before, Tara means a lot to the North Rockland Softball program as well as Coach Tony Toronto. Here’s a look at Csernecky-McCoy bio from the program:

“Tara was raised in West Haverstraw, attended West Haverstraw Elementary School, Haverstraw Middle School and graduated from North Rockland High School, Class of 1989.

Her passion for Softball started at a young age.  She played Little League for Haverstraw and went on to play JV and Varsity at North Rockland High School as a 1st baseman and catcher.

She earned a scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she was a standout player.  She helped the former Division II program convert to Division I status. She was selected as a team captain and was part of a team that advanced to the 1994 NCAA play-in series.

After graduation, Tara returned to UNCG as an assistant coach from 1997-1998.  In 1997, she was part of a staff that directed the Spartans to a 40-25 record, a Big South Tournament title and UNCG’s first NCAA Tournament invitation.  The following season, she helped coach UNCG to a 32-25 mark and a 2nd place finish in the Southern Conference, their best finish in the league to date.

In 1998, Tara became the head coach at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee a Division I school, and served six seasons (1999-2004).  Along the way, she coached three 1st Team All-Ohio Valley Conference selections and nine 2nd Team picks.  She also had two Co-SIDA Academic All-District selections during her tenure.

Tara received her Masters Degree from Lehman College and was a science teacher at DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx.  She was a participant in the elite Summer Research Program at Columbia University.  She loved teaching, softball, animals (especially her boxer, Hazel), being outdoors and spending time with her family and friends.  Tara had an infectious laugh and a beautiful smile.  She was, and is, loved by many.”

Please, if you guys are looking for a good game, go out to Nanuet High School and support this game.
